The 180-day orthopedic figure is a lifetime exclusion, not a waiting period: form GPTM 050 CA 0325 A (exclusion h) never covers orthopedic conditions that occur in the first 180 days. Two cases are excepted: knees, if a vet exam within 180 days records no knee conditions, and orthopedic conditions caused by an accident. The waiting period is 15 days for illness and for injury from normal activity, waived by a full vet exam in the first 15 days; accidents have no wait. Exam fees, dental and prescriptions are in the base policy and can be removed by optional endorsements. Prescription food is excluded. Pets must be older than six weeks; the guidelines set no maximum enrollment age. Claims are reimbursed to the policyholder. Why these scores
- D. Rate increases 7.9
- Filing 25-2417 (Exhibit 20) projected +30% or more for 2,940 of 49,076 California policies (6%) under an approved overall change of +12.9%.
- E. Price structure 3.0
- Filing 25-2417 turns the age-at-inception factor into a first-term discount (0.80-0.85 for pets enrolled at 1 or older) that wears off by 3-4 points a year over five renewals. It also adds a prior-claims factor: 0.95-0.85 from the second term for pets with $500 or less of counted claims (each claim counted at no more than $500), up to 2.20 otherwise. The card installment fee is $4.50, and the manual has no multi-pet discount. Quote validity and site lag were not checked.
- F. Customer treatment no data
- No regulator penalty or mass non-renewal involving AXIS Insurance Company was found in the research sources: CDI file 25-2417, the Florida IRFS filing list read on 13 October 2026, and Maine docket INS-23-800, which concerns American Pet Insurance Company, not AXIS.

History
- Clarified the California loss ratio: the 1.126 development factor applies to losses only (1.000 for defense and cost-containment expense), which gives 61.8%
- Added BBB and Trustpilot ratings checked on 13 October 2026
- Corrected the California loss-ratio statement: the +12.9% was set on the rate template's adjusted ratios (74.8%, 71.8%, 74.5%) for years ending 30 June, not on the raw 55-65% ratios. Marked the rate manual and the optional exclusion endorsements as California sources, clarified the prior-claims thresholds, the deductible options and the Florida 50-claim rule, and removed the pro about puppies and the age-at-inception factor.
